Internet Marketing: Advanced Selling Strategies

Below are some general ideas that you may consider for generating sales/profit from your website:
1. Increase your ratio of visitors who purchase your product(s). You could change your headline, offer a stronger guarantee, add testimonials, etc. For example, one week you could have your headline say, "How To Lose 5 Pounds In Two Days!" and the next week use, "Lose 5 Pounds In Only 48 Hours!" Just see which one pulls more orders per visitors.
2. Share customers with other businesses that have the same target audience. Offer their product to your customers if, in exchange, they do the same for you. For example, if your business is selling toys, you could cross-promote a business that sells kids’ games. You both have a similar target audience.
3. Multiply your marketing and advertising efforts on the Internet. You can accomplish this by starting an affiliate program, using viral marketing or both. For example, you could start an affiliate program and give your affiliates customized e-books with their own affiliate links to give away.
4. Find out who are your strongest leads for buying your product by offering a free e-zine. The visitors who are very interested will subscribe to it. Once they have subscribed, you can sell them related products again and again. Just make sure your e-zine has enough original content to keep them interested.
5. Publish an e-zine for your employees. This could motivate them to do a better job or keep them advised on where your business is headed. For example, you could include articles about friendly customer service, being more productive, getting along with other employees, employee profiles, etc.
6. Search for your business' name in newsgroups and discussion boards. Some of the comments you find could help you improve your business. For example, you could find someone complaining about your customer service, an employee, your web site design, product, etc. Then you'll know what to improve.
7. Attract people to link to your web site. You could offer them a discount on the products you sell or give them free items for linking. For example, you could say, "Get A Huge 30% Discount On Our E-book If You Agree To Link To Our Web Site For At Least One Month!"
8. Develop your own opt-in email list by giving your visitors a reason to give you their e-mail address. Allow them to sign up to free items and contests. Just get their permission to e-mail them again in the future for other things. For example, you could say, "Sign Up For Your Chance To Win A Color TV!"
9. Create a "PR" web page for your business. List information that could be considered newsworthy for e-zines, newspapers, magazines, etc. There are many ways to get into the media, like launching a unusual product, donating a large amount to charity, holding big events, etc.
10. Give your business and products credibility by linking to web sites that have written positive stories about your business. You could link to them right in your product ad. For example, you could say, "Just See What (name) Magazine Is Saying About Our Newest E-book!"
11. Give people a free subscription to your e-zine. Almost everyone is publishing an e-zine nowadays so it's important to give something extra with the free subscription. You could offer a weekly contest for new subscribers. For example, you could say, "Subscribe And Have A Chance To Win Our Latest Home Study Course!"
12. Provide your visitors with free content. Your content will be more attractive to your visitors if it's up-to-date or original. You could also offer people the option to reprint the content in their e-zine or web site. If your content is super original, you could use something like "Never Seen Before" in your titles.
13. Offer a free online directory. The directory could be full of interesting e-books, e-zines, web sites, etc. If people find your directory to be a valuable resource, they will visit it over and over again. You could also put your whole directory into e-book format and allow people to give it away.
14. Give your visitors a free e-book. You could also include your own ad in the e-book and allow other people to give it away. If you don't want to take the time to write one, you could ask other writers’ permission to use their articles. They will just want you to publish their resource box too.
15. Hold free online classes or seminars. They could be held in your web site's chat room. The idea of "live" information will definitely entice people to visit your web site. You will become known as an expert on the topic. You could hold them weekly or monthly to get people to revisit your web site again and again.
16. Give visitors a free entry into your contest or sweepstake. The prizes should be something of interest or value to your visitors. Most people who enter will continually revisit your web site to get the results. For example, if your target audience is business owners, your prizes could be computers, business e-books, business services, etc.
17. Let visitors download free software. It could be freeware, shareware, demos, etc. You could even turn part of your site into a free software directory. If you created the software, include your ad inside and let other people give it away. You could also allow people to link to your free software directory so they could offer it to their own visitors.
18. Offer free online services or utilities from your website. They could be search engine submitting, copywriting, proofreading, etc. The service or utility should be helpful to your target audience. For example, if your target audience is e-book publishers, offer them a free e-book creation service.
19. Give free consulting to people who visit your website. You could offer your knowledge via e-mail or by telephone. People will consider this to be of huge value because consulting fees can be very expensive. You could also create a product by recording or saving the information you gave them and selling it to them as a handy reference.
20. Give your visitors a free membership to your online club. People want to belong to something, why not your online club? You could also give away a free e-zine for club members only. You could make money by offering a deluxe membership for a monthly fee.
21. Persuade visitors to link to your web site. Give them a freebie in exchange for them linking to your website. It could be content, software, etc. You could make the freebie even more valuable to them if you allow them to give it away with their own customized links in it.
22. Link to web sites that provide useful information or services for your visitors. If you have many useful links on your site, they may make it their start page. For example, wouldn't you like to go to one web page and have on it all the links you like to visit or research?
23. Spice up your web site's wording by using plenty of adjectives. It gives your visitors a clearer vision of what you're explaining or describing to them. For example, if you were describing a software program you could say, "This easy-to-use software gently guides you through the whole set up process."
24. Don't make your banner ads look like ads. Most people ignore banner ads. Design them to look like content and have people click to read the rest. For example, you could say, "How To Increase Your Sales By 200% by Larry Dotson. To Read Click Here!"
25. Join affiliate programs that go with the theme of your web site. You'll just be wasting valuable space and time if your visitors aren't interested in them. For example, if your target audience is softball players, you would want to join affiliate programs that sell softball bats, balls, uniforms, magazines, etc.
26. Market your web site as a free club instead of a website. This'll increase your repeat visitors and sales because people enjoy belonging to groups. You could have a members’ message board, give visitors' membership IDs, give them membership graphics to place on their web sites, etc.
27. Interact with your online customers on a regular basis. This'll show them you care about them. You could use a chat room, forum or an online message system. Always be interested in what people have to say, answer their questions, give them compliments, and take the time to talk about things other than just business, etc.
28. Check your web site links regularly. If people click on a link and it doesn't work, they usually won't risk wasting their time clicking on another one. For example, would you revisit a web site after two of the links you really wanted to click on didn’t work? You probably wouldn't even bookmark the site.
29. Give visitors a positive experience when they're at your web site. Provide them with original content and free things. They'll tell all of their friends about it. You could also persuade them to tell their friends about it by starting an affiliate program. It could pay per sale, per click or per lead.
30. Team up with your competition by starting an association for your specific industry. It could lead to a profitable partnership with them. You could give all the members graphic links to place on their home pages. This would increase your membership and business exposure.

Benefits and Tips on Designing a Site Map

A site map basically is a page that features or lists the links you have on your web site. This will make it easier for search engines to proceed and spider your web site. It is usually found near the bottom page of a web site.

The following tips will be very useful in designing a site map:

1. Link the sitemap only to your homepage.
This is to ensure that the spider starts searching from your homepage down to all the pages listed in your sitemap. In this way, no page would be left unvisited by the spider.

2. Do not go beyond 30 pages for a sitemap.
Large websites having 50 or more pages should not go beyond 30 since this adds more pages to the site, and might make search engines think that the sitemap is a link farm. Also, this prevents overcrowding of links which could be tiring to view.

3. Check all the links listed in your sitemap.
It can be discouraging when you click on a link only to find out that nothing is displayed. Test your sitemap; click all links in every page to make sure that all links are indeed linked to the right page.

4. Give keyword-rich titles to sitemap links.
Keyword-rich titles give your site more advantage in being searched properly under the right category. But be sure to have this sitemap link linked back to the sitemap (e.g. back to sitemap).

5. Provide a short description for the links in the sitemap.
Doing so would give readers a better idea of what to find in the link and save them time on surfing.

6. Be consistent in designing your sitemap with the other pages of the site.
Employ a recurring design and the same HTML template for all pages to establish identity and build character to your website.

There are at least three major types of sitemaps: indexed, full categorical, and restricted categorical. An indexed site map appears as an alphabetical listing or directory.
A full categorical map displays all links classified into categories; while a restricted categorical sitemap displays all links listed in a chosen category at a time. The full and restricted sitemaps are very similar except that the former displays all links in all categories all at once in a page, while the latter focuses only the links under the selected category for easier and less eye-straining viewing.

Some tips in setting up your sitemap

1. No page would be left unturned
Going back to the purpose of sitemaps, having one would mean faster and easier tracking and crawling of spiders all over your site. As a result, search engines would surely get to the view all the pages of your site and not just the pages containing random keywords.

2. Easier navigation for site visitors
Once a web user has accessed your sitemap, they need not go back to the search engine page to look for what they need. If what they are looking for is in your site, then they would have an easier and faster way of locating it.

3. Potential advertising value
If it so happens that a relevant product or service company reaches your site, then it would be easier for them to see how best they can position themselves in the different pages of your site as a paid page advertisement.

4. Encourage greater traffic to your site
If your company website has a sitemap then potential buyers would have an easier time in accessing your latest products and services. Moreover, they would not miss out on any product that might be off future interest to them since the sitemap would display all information found the site.

Now that you have learned basic things about sitemaps, maybe it is time for you to build one for your site.

Sitemap - How To Create It?

Sitemap is vital to a website. People search the web a lot for something. If your website has what that particular person is looking for, and your sitemap reports it, then you have a new customer looking at your items. Not only that, they will see some other things up for sale that they might be interested in as well.

A site map serves more like a table of contents of your website. It should provide all of the different sections of your internet site with all the information and data that may be found in each section

A sitemap of a website is similar to the table of contents of a book. Sitemaps are important because it guides web surfers to the particular part of the website they have a point of interest in. With it they would save time following links and get right to the point instead.

Sitemaps are also where search engines look at if somebody is looking for a particular keyword or phrase. If you have a site map, you can most likely be searched.

Creating a sitemap, now with software technology surging in, is relatively easier than before. You need not be a programming guru to be one. All need is a notepad, a program editor, and some patience. Here’s how you do it:

¤ ¤ ¤ Create the listing on a notepad.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be a notepad. Any word processing program will do. First off, make sure to type in all the parts and pieces of your website. Include all pages and all links you have. Create it as if you listing the contents of your book. Make a draft first. You’re sure no to miss something out this way.

¤ ¤ ¤ Create a new page for your sitemap.
You can insert the sitemap on your website on one of its pages or you can create an entirely different page for it. Using your notepad, incorporate all tags necessary to it to make another webpage. Open up your website creator program and tag your sitemap using it. If you have created your website on your own, this will be easy for you.

¤ ¤ ¤ Create a link for the sitemap.
You won’t be able to view the sitemap if you won’t put a link for it, of course. Create the link on the front page of your website so that visitors can view it right away and be directed appropriately.

¤ ¤ ¤ Check your work.
It is important to validate the functionality of the links you created on the sitemap. Test each and every one in there and if you get an error, be sure to fix it accurately. Run through every single page to make sure that all are accounted for.

¤ ¤ ¤ Upload your work.
Place the sitemap now on your live browser and double check it. It should function as smoothly as the dry run. Error should be minimal at this stage since you already have verified it locally.

The steps provided herewith is the manual way of creating a sitemap. These days, if you search hard enough on the web, you will find online programs that will do all these work for you. All you have to do it type in the URL or the link of your website and they will create the sitemap with click of a button.

Of course that method is generic. All of you who have created their sitemap that way will have an end product that is all the same, plus there’s that possibility that something else will be inserted in there too. Then again, the process is less taxing and way, way simpler.

Here are some important pointers in creating your HTML site map.
1. Get tutorials on how to make your site map. There are available pages online that can give you a step-by-step guide in coming up with a good website.

2. You can also ensure that your site map looks good, to make it more pleasing to the eye of your visitor and to make navigation easier. You can get ideas for a properly designed site map online too.

3. Make sure that your site map will provide also the links to the important pages in your web site. This way your visitors will not get lost. At the same time you can ensure that your guests will still be able to get the general idea of your web site structure. It is advisable that you make links as simple as possible.

4. Make the link to your site map as visible and obvious as possible in your homepage. Visitors should not spend too much time in locating it or else you might end up losing them.

5. A site map serves more like a table of contents of your website. It should provide all of the different sections of your internet site with all the information and data that may be found in each section.

6. Each of the contents in your site map must have a hyperlink to its respective URL.

7. If you will have to give way to numerous links, you can make use of several pages. You could numbers each site-map page or you could also make use of the contents in naming each site-map.

There are certain benefits in having a good HTML sitemap. This generally would assure any potential customer to easily navigate the site, find exactly what they came to look for. The site map page will serve as a tool for your visitors. This way they will opt to visit your site more if they can easily browse and find their way in your web site. It can also ensure that your visitors can very well stay in your web site.

Good links will also ensure you that spiders will locate your web site easily each week. This will make your site indexed by the important search engines online. This will also avoid your site from being dropped.

Having an HTML site map will furthermore help you in maximizing traffic to your web site. Just make sure that your homepage as well all the internal pages are properly indexed. Creating a site map will definitely make things more efficient for you. The links to all the pages in your website will be directly connected to your homepage.

Now that you have learned basic things about sitemaps, maybe it is time for you to build one for your site.

The Benefits of Email Marketing

Being successful in email marketing indeed requires effort, but it is not at all daunting to plan a strategic email campaign. People are getting more and more creative in advertising with the addition of recent technologies. Getting other people to know about a new product or service in the market has now become much easier because of the advent of the internet.

Here are simple tips on how to lead in the e-mail marketing venture.

1. Create a Mailing List

Building a mailing list of target prospects is among the most vital steps in a strategic email campaign. As time goes on, the list grows and becomes an important asset as a source of profits from the would-be loyal followers. These people are usually those who receive these marketing and advertising emails. SPAM has become a universal term that refers to any unwanted, unproductive and unethical activity done over the internet. For bulk email marketing, SPAM refers to unsolicited junk email.

Commercial emails have benefits both for the consumers and the business. However, this has been abused by many companies. Almost all commercial emails now are being tagged as SPAM even if they contain legitimate information.

2. Address Prospective Clients Personally

Practically everyone gets spam in their inbox and virtually everybody has developed allergies for email advertisements. To prevent recipients from automatically trashing email ads, it is important to call their attention using the most beautiful words to their ears (or eyes): their names. Addressing prospects personally makes them feel important. The more recipients are made to feel that they are treated as persons and not numbers, the more likely they will be willing to go on reading.

3. Try to Avoid Appearing Suspicious

People are getting more aware of the truth in the phrase "too good to be true." As mentioned earlier, people are growing sick of spam, and they treat anything that resembles spam as dirt. It is important to make efforts to compose email advertisements that do not look like spam. To prevent an email ad from being trashed, it is wise to avoid making hyperbolic statements, overusing characters such as dollar signs and exclamation points, and doing other things spammers usually do.

4. Creativity is the key

Being simple does not mean you should not be creative. Creativity is one of the best ways to get customers. Even if you have a simple but creative byline or subject line, your audience will pick it up. The body of the e-mail itself must also be interesting. Using interesting designs is a plus. Play around with your product and present it in the best way that you can.

You can create an email that seems like a follow up, then you can add your advertisement for your new product that they may also be interested in. Then you can also ask for a few referrals from them who may also be interested in your product. Doing this will make your way of advertising more legitimate. In case that someone will accuse you of sending spam email, you can prove to them otherwise by showing proof of relationship with the customer such as receipt of purchase or an email from them.

5. Make Email Ads Easy for Recipients to Understand

It is indeed important for email advertisements to catch the attention of the recipient; however, it is also equally vital for the readers to realize the response that is expected of them. Whether it is to click a certain link, or to reply to a certain message, the recipient should be able to fully understand what is supposed to be done after reading the email. Otherwise, the email campaign may be as useless as a trashed spam, despite how effectively it was able to captivate the targeted market.

6. Make the Brand Known Right from the Start

One of the best ways for a business to succeed is to build up its name. Take time to research and learn the business. Getting published in an internet magazine related to your business or being recognized by the market as one of the better dealers is a great way to build your name. Do not meddle with petty strategies that look like SPAM or other cheap ways to lure customers. This would only taint the name of your business. Everyone knows that a bad name will only make a bad business.

The customer must be able to identify and remember the brand for a long period. This could be done by placing the brand name in key areas such as the "from" and "subject" line, or other notable parts of the email. Granting that the client was satisfied with the first transaction, loyalty is not too far if the client is very much familiar with the brand.

7. Be sure to evaluate your competitors.

If you are starting in the business, it is best that you consider the prices and the promotion styles of your rivals. Make a better deal or package than your competitors.

There are several ways to promote a product or service over the internet. You just have to be creative and imaginative. Marketing and advertising are critical factors to your business' success. Make sure you do it in a nice and professional manner; else, you will be in for some trouble once your commercial email is tagged as spam.

How To Protect Yourself From Spam

The practice of sending out unsolicited, unwanted junk email and junk postings came to be called "spam." Today, more than half of the trillion-plus emails that are sent and received are spam. Initially, spam was generally advertising-related email.

It is virtually impossible to avoid having your email address end up on a spammer's mailing list. You can, however, take steps to minimize the amount of spam that you receive. Keep in mind the following:

# Never respond directly to any unsolicited email that asks you to update or verify your personal information. Banks, stores and other legitimate businesses will never ask you to give this information via email, particularly following the advent of phishing. If there is any doubt as to whether or not the email is from who it purports to be, contact the company immediately to confirm and clarify the request for information. Be sure to call a phone number from your statement. Calling the phone number in the email is probably a direct line to the identity thief.

# Never click on a link in any such email. To do so would be to risk downloading malicious Trojan horse spyware, which will install keyloggers in your computer system. This would provide hackers direct access to all the personal data stored on your computer, which they will use for their own nefarious financial gain.

# Never, ever fill out forms contained in an email that request personal information. The mere request for this information should ring a loud alarm bell. Phishers are able to use HTML to design very official-looking email messages. Any information entered into these forms goes directly to the phisher

# Never trust links contained in unsolicited email. Phishers have devised ways to spoof legitimate website links. Common tricks that are used include misspelling web addresses or using sub-domains that include the name of a legitimate business.

# Never, ever post your permanent email address publicly online. If you absolutely have to supply an address, or regularly participate in online forums but do not want further communication, camouflage your address in some way. You can, for example, disguise your address by writing it in such a way that humans can read it, but the spammers automated programs cannot. If you have a website, provide a feedback form instead of giving your email address.

# Do not use your primary email address when placing an online order, getting a free download, or want to sign up for a newsletter or free service Get a secondary email address that you can use in these instances. You can open a free email account for this purpose. Email providers such as GMail and yahoo offer this free email service.

# Choose an email address that cannot be easily guessed at. One method used by spammers to get email address is to generate a list of likely email addresses based on a combination of first names, last names and commonly used words.

# Be very cautious of opening any emailed attachments you receive, even if they seem to be from an acquaintance.

# Beware the Phisher Spam - Phishing is a tactic used by spammers to scam you into giving up vital personal and financial information. Its sole purpose is identity theft. Never divulge any personal or financial information that is requested in an email. Your bank or credit card company would never ask you to confirm or update your personal information via an email or a link in an email. Any such emails should be reported to the bank or credit card company. Never, ever click on any links in this type of spam.

# Do not cut and paste the link contained in the message into your browser. Type the address of the legitimate company in a separate browser window, so as to bypass having to click on the link in a suspected phishing email.

# Get a spam filter or spam blocker - Stop the spam dead in its tracks before it ever makes it into your inbox. Well, most of it at least. Though they are not 100% effective, anti-spam software will keep most of it out. Even if you only use the internet a spam filter will help protect you from spam.

# Always be suspicious of impersonal email. Almost all email communication from legitimate businesses will contain some specific piece of personal information that is not readily available to anyone but you. An email from your bank, for example may include part of your account number.

# Be sure to use anti-syware and anti-virus software, and keep these regularly updated. Anti-spam filter software may help eliminate or minimize the amount of phishing spam you will receive in your inbox.

# Help catch the phishers by reporting any phishing attempts. Forward the phishing email to the company that is being spoofed. Also forward it to these email addresses as well:
spam@uce.gov and reportphishing@antiphishing.org. This information will be used by the Anti-Phishing Working Group to fight phishing. This organization is a coalition between the internet industry, and financial institutions and law enforcement.
